How we measure

  1. Basket change. What a collection with one of every eligible card would have gained or lost, weighting each card by its starting price.
  2. Capped moves. Each card's change is capped at ±50%, so one thin-market spike cannot decide a result.
  3. Breadth. The bar under each row shows the share of cards up (green) and down (red). A move carried by a few cards is flagged low confidence.
  4. Versus market. The small figure subtracts the whole game's change, so a set that "rose" only because everything rose is not a winner.
  5. Fair comparison. Only cards priced at $5 or more on both dates count, and lists need a minimum number of cards and at least three that moved.

Limits to keep in mind

  1. Prices lag. TCGplayer's market price is a recent-sales average, so it reacts late and can stay flat for days.
  2. No volume. The feed has no sales counts, so we cannot tell a busy card from one that sold once.
  3. New sets are volatile. Sets under three months old are tagged NEW. Their prices often peak early and settle as supply arrives, so compare them with each other rather than with older sets.
  4. Most cards do not move daily. That is why the 1-day view is small and noisy, and why 7 and 30 days matter.
